permalink TOP 100 Albums of the Decade_NME

Mind if we take a moment to acknowledge a really interesting accolade bestowed upon my dear friends in Brand New…I’ve just seen this article in NME on the best albums of the decade and Brand New was pegged with the 74th best album of the decade for, ‘The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me’. I was out on the road with them when this record came out and I remember the stir that the record label was causing bc the Album didnt have a title or the Bands’ name anywhere on the cover. If nothing else, I hope its another nod to the fact that nothing aside from the music encoded on the CD really matters at the end of the day. It isnt about how cool you are TRYING to be, or anything other than the songs and the chemistry recorded. Its a sweet victory for the band to see themselves recognized by NME, or you, or anyone who has found something worth embracing in their songs.

the ApK spent 5 days on the road with BrandNew last week. from Cleveland to Detroit, Chicago and Minneapolis. It was the first filming adventure for us on this tour of many. we will be out on the west coast next wk trailing the band into the city of Los Angeles.

“When Brand New decided to make music videos for their new album, ‘Daisy,’ they skipped the traditional route altogether. Not only did the Long Island, N.Y. rockers opt to rearrange the songs — including the lead single ‘At the Bottom’ — they decided to perform them live for the first time. “Our friend set us up in a live studio in Brooklyn and we played versions of songs on the new record that haven’t appeared anywhere else yet,” guitarist Vinnie Accardi tells Spinner. “It’s kind of strange, because it was the first time we were playing those songs together at all, and then we were actually playing alternate versions of them, which no one asked us to do.” - Spinner

The Brand New sessions were left open to the exploration of alternate compositions and visitors.  Kevin devine came to the studio on the second day and the band quickly adapted the version that he brought into the fold.  The version of ‘Jesus’ performed here was one of the finest moments of the weekend.

this version of ‘sowing season’ was filmed at the end of a weekend recording session with brand new in june2009. after two days of exploring alternate versions of many songs, Jesse played and we recorded the bare composition heard here.
